For candidates
Your interview on TrueCandidate
You were invited to a video interview that runs on this platform. Here is what to expect, what is collected, and your rights. Nothing here is a test; it is a normal video call with a few short checks.
Before you join
- Use a laptop or desktop with Chrome, Edge or Safari. Phones work but the small screen makes the coding board hard to use.
- One screen, one tab. Close other video apps so they do not hold the camera. Keep the interview tab in the foreground.
- Face a light source (a window or a lamp in front of you, not behind).
- Open the link 15 minutes early. It checks your camera, microphone and connection, then shows the consent page.
What happens in the call
- Setup check — camera, microphone and a short connection test. Nothing is recorded yet.
- Consent page — lists exactly what is collected and for how long. Nothing is recorded until you agree.
- A 50-second calibration — you read a short paragraph aloud, then talk freely. This teaches the system what your normal looks like, so it compares you with yourself, not with other people.
- The interview — a normal video call, with a shared code editor and a drawing board the interviewer may use. The interviewer may ask you to do a few short things: close your eyes for one answer, share your screen, turn your head, pass a hand across your face. They take seconds and are asked of every candidate.
- Afterwards — a page shows what was kept, when it will be deleted, and a button to ask for a human re-review.
What is collected
Only during the interview, only after you consent:
- The video and audio of the call, kept for the retention period the hiring organization chose (between 7 and 90 days), then deleted.
- Browser facts: whether the interview tab stayed in focus, whether text was pasted, how many screens are connected, whether a virtual camera or audio device is present.
- Face-tracking numbers computed on your own device: where your eyes point, blinks, head angle, lip movement, microphone level. Only numbers leave your computer, never extra video frames.
- Connection quality during the call.
What is not done: no automated score, no automated rejection, no comparison with other people, no training of AI models on your video unless you tick a separate, optional box, which you can withdraw at any time.
Your rights
- Decline. You can close the page before consenting; nothing is captured.
- See what was kept. The page after the interview lists it, with the deletion date.
- Ask for a human re-review. If you think something was misread, press the button on that page. A person watches the full recording. Nothing is deleted while a review is open.
- Withdraw research consent from the same page, if you had opted in.
Problems
- Camera or microphone blocked: click the lock or camera icon in the browser address bar, allow both, then reload the page.
- "Face tracking unavailable": the interview still works; only the eye-tracking checks are off. Try Chrome if you were on another browser.
- Link says it is too early or closed: it opens 15 minutes before the scheduled time and closes two hours after. Contact the person who invited you to reschedule.
- Call dropped: reopen the same link; you rejoin the same session.
